Exploring 7taps microlearning AI

My turn to try creating a course with 7taps microlearning's new AI feature! It's about choosing the right LMS -- check it out below.

A few of my thoughts on this tool, in addition to Alison Sollars' thoughtful writeup of it on LinkedIn, all of which I agree with:

  • It worked a little differently than I expected. While OpenAI’s large language model AI tool ChatGPT can be iterative and you can ask it to revise its output, 7taps AI generates an ENTIRE course with just one prompt. One and done. No changes possible, except for those you make yourself (at least while the tool is in its beta version, not sure whether this will change in time).

  • So I think as we're finding is true with other AI tools, specificity in the prompts you provide is key -- 7taps AI produced a stronger micro-course for the prompt "responding to microaggressions" versus the more general "subtle acts of exclusion," for example.

  • I also wonder whether including some version of a learning objective verb in the prompt may be helpful to narrow its focus.

  • This tool could potentially support a learning designer when they lack subject area knowledge or easy access to a SME by giving them a baseline to work from. But as with any AI tool, it certainly needs to be checked by human brains for accuracy.

My course was generated using the prompt "selecting a learning management system" -- in response, 7taps AI produced 7 slides of actions, a quiz, and AI video (with AI-generated script!). All quite good!

I added the media and some introductory material, including a poll, and simplified the language.

All in all? Another useful tool in the toolbox... and like everything with 7taps, just plain fun!
