My background & expertise

My Masters in Teaching lends me foundational knowledge about learning principles that I apply during the design process to ensure constructive alignment of all learning materials and assessments with the ultimate learning objective(s).

I tend to approach the design process using a backward design framework, but also have experience with ADDIE and action mapping and am versed in others like SAM. I have extensive experience conducting many kinds of analysis, most particularly learner analysis and gap analysis, as well as evaluating the efficacy of learning interventions using the resulting assessment data.

Accessibility and DEI are not secondary concerns to me, not only as a human, but also as an instructional designer, recognizing that all students must be able to safely and easily access my learning materials; and if they cannot, I have fundamentally failed.

My subject matter expertise doesn’t end with learning. With my second Masters in English, I’m also your written and verbal communication subject matter expert (SME). Need someone to draft scripts, communicate effectively with stakeholders, or proofread training materials? I’m your woman.

A few other things that set me apart

I’m a skilled collaborator with the ability to make others feel heard and synthesize multiple points of view; I’ve been formally recognized by prior supervisors for this ability.

However, I also thrive on solo, heads-down work time. When I get caught up in the nitty-gritty of developing a particular interaction in a content authoring tool, or selecting the perfect image for a particular character, I’ll happily plow through an entire afternoon to get it just right.

I believe in bringing my best self to work every moment of every day. It comes from my background both in veterinary medicine and in education, where I developed a deeply-held conviction that every patient, every student deserved nothing less than that best. (I’ll bring it to my work with you, too.)

I’m a lifelong learner who is always driven to seek out professional growth. If I don’t know how to do something (yet), I’ll figure it out—and then probably ask if it’s something you could use help with, too.
